What is the plot of There Will Be Blood?
Ruthless silver miner, turned oil prospector, Daniel Plainview moves to oil-rich California. Using his adopted son HW to project a trustworthy, family-man image, Plainview cons local landowners into selling him their valuable properties for a pittance. 7. PAUL AND ELI SUNDAY WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE TWINS. In the film, Paul Dano plays twins Paul and Eli Sunday, but the brothers weren’t written as twins. Dano was originally cast in the smaller role of Paul Sunday, who visits Plainview to tell him about the oil under his family’s property in Little Boston, California.
What did Daniel Plainview mean by I’m finished?
While it’s pretty clear that Daniel Plainview held no regard for organized religion, I think part of the significance is saying “I’m finished” refers to his goal of not only killing Eli and ruining him financially by draining the land he owned. Daniel also wanted to destroy him in a spiritual sense as well.
What happened to Daniel’s son in There Will Be Blood?
The film doesn’t tell us everything that happened in the years since the early 1910s, but we know Daniel’s son, H.W., has stuck by him as his business partner. In one of the film’s final scenes, though, an adult H.W. simply storms off, without having really completed the business he came there for.

What did Daniel Plainview whisper to Eli?
Right after the baptism, religious music plays and we see Daniel facing away from camera say something to Eli, who then looks horrified. I’m guessing either “there will be blood” or something along the lines of “I’m going to eat you”, as he later yells “I told you I would eat you!”
Why did Daniel not let Eli bless the well?
Eli became a pitiful broke drinker, while Daniel ended up wealthy, albeit pitiful, and Daniel started to hate him from very early on. He didn’t choose him for the blessing for the crowd to see, and he lashed out at him when H.W. was hurt in an accident.
